This New Year I decided to focus on slow fashion and becoming a more conscious consumer. I’ve come to realize that I was having writers block with my last blog (and instagram) because fast fashion was starting to really bum me out. It was also draining my wallet…
When I had started blogging in 2013 the fashion seasons were simple: fall, spring, and resort. I enjoyed the slower process of blogging back then. I would see concept art for collections, plan my travel outfits, shoot and post. It was easy to keep up with, inspirational, and romantic. But now, thanks to the rise of using social media/influencers as marketing tactics, fast fashion has gone full speed ahead.
We now have the following seasons:
Fast Fashion is difficult to keep up with. For financial reasons, many turn to fast fashion mecca’s like H&M, Forever 21, and Zara (I’m guilty of it myself!). But are shoppers really saving money buying new clothes constantly? Especially when those clothes fall apart after one or two wears?
In 2017, when my writers block was starting, I watched the documentary “True Cost” by Andrew Morgan. I was horrified at the system I had found myself caught up in. I had no doubt after watching that fast fashion is destroying our planet, harming fellow humans, and leaving us broke.
That’s why I’ve decided to give myself a fresh start with blogging. KayKayBray.com will focus on being a conscious consumer. You’ll still find topics on fashion trends, brands, travel guides and more… but it will all focus on slow fashion. You’ll find guides on updating old outfits, brands with a lower carbon footprint/that give back, buying quality over quantity, brands that give back, and the best options for Mother Earth.
I’m not an expert, and I intend to share any mistakes I make as I figure this all out! Feel free to send me messages or leave comments with your own lessons/suggestions!
Last weekend S and I went to the Dolls Kill x Hello Kitty event to celebrate the launch of their recent collaboration collection. Click read more to see our photo diary and click here to shop the collection!
One of the easiest trends to wear this fall is puffy sleeves. From minimal puffs to full on pastel 80's dream sleeves; this year, sleeves are gonna be puffy. I fell in love with the trend early on thanks to Kimberly Gordon's new brand Selkie. Last spring I got the Victorian Blouse (pictured above); it's made from deadstock viscose fabric and it quickly became my favorite top (day or night). Theres only a few left in sizes xl +, click here to shop!
I know a few people who aren't a fan of this trend revival, but not all of us had the chance to enjoy the puffy sleeves of the 80s. So I've put together a slideshow of over 15 different puffy sleeve styles to choose from. Go ahead and find the right one for you!
Shops and prices are listed. Just click the images to shop!
I'll be adding to this slideshow as I find more puffy treasures! Comment your favorites below!
My all time favorite jacket is Neoprene and hand tie dyed (which means each one is unique). It was designed by Unif for their Summer 2014 collection (over 5 years ago!!) and there's ONE being sold on Poshmark right now!! Click here to buy.
I've had this trippy piece for years! Click read more to see it through the years, and click on the pics to go to the old blogposts!
An easy Medusa costume guide for fellow "Muppet heads". This post was originally written for the My Curlifornia Blog in 2017 by me, Kk =)
Halloween time at Disneyland is my absolute favorite time to visit. The summer rush is gone, rides get autumn makeovers, and shades of both pastel and bright orange cover the park (along with purple and black undertones).
My birthday was at the end of September and to celebrate we went to Disneyland for the new Halloween party: Oogie Boogie's Bash.
Read more for the guide on what to do, see, eat, and drink at Oogie Boogie's Bash!
I am so excited to be returning to Disneyland soon!! Especially since I'll be going during my birthday weekend AND Halloween time has already returned to the parks. S and I will be exploring everything Disneyland has to offer during the fall festivities; including the new Oogie Boogie Bash Halloween party.
I've been outfit prepping and figured I would share a few outfit ideas inspired by our favorite Disney villains! Whether you're headed to Oogies big bash or plan on enjoying the daily Halloween themed decor and activities, this post is for you!

Spell Designs will be releasing it's newest collection with the world this week; coincidentally on the same day as the sun shifts into Aries (restarting the astrological calendar) AND a full super moon occurs in Libra.
The dualities of Libra (Venus) and Aries (Mars) run rampant throughout Spells new campaign "Maisie and the Muse", which was fittingly shot in Florence Italy. Frills and pastels go hand in hand with edgy cuts and neutrals. The scenes themselves shift from the rigid cobblestone streets of the city to a lush rose garden in someone's private yard.
This is the first Spell collection in awhile that I've been really excited for!! It still feels "Spelly" but doesn't feel like a repeat of old patterns, and I cant wait to add some pieces to my wardrobe this Spring! I suggest looking through the images to pick out pieces you want to snag on launch day! Spell has a habit of items selling out fast!
Maisie and The Muse collection launches Wednesday March 20th at 4pm PDT, and Thursday 21st March 10am AEDT. Click here to shop the collection!
