** Another old post I wrote weeks ago and couldn't post earlier because of my injury. My review of four different "I'm Real" face masks by Tony Moly**
I've keep seeing these Tony Moly face masks popping up on tumblr, pintrest, and even some of my favorite boutiques, so I decided to finally give four of them a try! This was my first time using any type of cosmetics from South Korea and overall I had a good experience with all four.
Read more to see which masks followed through with their beauty promises and which ones were 30 minutes of dripping wet face mask torture.
Seaweed: Skin Purifying
Ok, first impression on the seaweed mask is that it smells wonderful. It smells absolutely nothing like seaweed, but it does smell amazing. The seaweed mask is also SO wet. Dripping off my face wet. While the extra liquid was ... strange and a bit uncomfortable... it did result in very moisturized skin.
Once I got it out of the packaging, I had to guess at which side was supposed to touch my skin as there were no indicators of which side was "up" or "down". Hopefully it doesn't matter!
The mask was much larger than my face. The mask went all the way into my hairline and creases over on itself (especially on my chin and on the sides of my face). The space between the nose and mouth cut outs is also too large causing it to cover my upper lip (I was constantly tugging it back up while it was on my face). The eye holes however have the exact opposite problem. They're so small! I had to adjust them everytime I blinked because my eyelashes kept catching on it.
I was ready to take the mask off 8 min before the timer rang. A thick layer of "goop" was left on my skin which I just rubbed in (per the directions). This mask feels like it has bubble soap or glue in it... I wanted to wash it off but decided to leave it on anyways. In an hour it was totally dry and the next day my skin felt amazing! My face was extremely moisturized and had a few white heads (evidence that toxins were coming out of my skin). I decided that this mask delivered on it's promise of purifing my skin.
Red Wine: Pore Care
First of all this mask does not smell like wine. At all. Instead it smells exactly like grape juice from a box. The mask had the same size issue on my face as the seaweed mask (too big and hanging off the side of my face and too small around my eyes and mouth) and is white in color like the other masks. The chin part was ripped before I pulled it out of the container but it was wet enough to stay put on my face.
This mask isn't as wet as some of the other masks were and is extremely comfortable to wear. It doesn't feel too tingly or thick like glue. When the timer was up and I took the mask off it was noticeably less sticky or goopy than the others I tried. It didn't take long to rub the excess mask into my skin either.
The next day my face felt moisturized but there was no change in my pores.
Rice Mask: Clear Skin
The Rice Mask had a pleasant smell to it but still had the same size issue as the other masks. It was easy to keep this mask on for the full thirty minutes because it didn't have as much excess liquid and the smell wasn't off putting like the Aloe mask.
The next day my skin felt moisturized but I saw no difference in my acne (which is the promise behind the Rice Mask).
Aloe Mask: Moisturizing
The Aloe mask gave me the same size issue as the other masks. This mask was SO wet it was dripping all over the place when I tried to wear it. The smell of the mask actually smells like Aloe (unlike the other masks that smelled nothing like their names suggested) but just like real Aloe it had a very sour smell to it... which made it difficult to keep it on my face for thirty minutes.
The next day my skin felt extremely moisturized! Despite the excess liquid and sour smell this mask delivered it's promise better than any other mask. You just have to suffer through the 30 mins to get the promised results!
Try the "I'm Real" face masks by purchasing them here! Let me know if you try a different "flavor" mask than I did!
After trying cosmetics from South Korea for the first time I'm becoming more interested in trying products from other foreign countries. Send me any suggestions in the comments below! xo
