"You may all go to Hell, and I will go to Texas." Davy Crockett
On my first day of summer vacation, my mom picked me up for a cross country road trip... as soon as I got home from my half day at work!!! My bags were already packed and I barely said goodbye to S before we were on the road!
More specifically, we were on the 10, which we took all the way to Louisiana! Which is why this road trip is the "LA (Los Angeles) to LA (Louisiana) road trip!"
Welcome to the Houmas House; an antebellum estate with 16 rooms and 38 acres of elaborate gardens. The house itself feels more like a museum than a plantation "frozen in time" and features quirky artifacts like a gifted Vampire Hunting kit from Anne Rice and relics from a doggy marriage.
After a tour through the house and a light lunch at the restaurant on site, I started to roam through the gardens. Most of the other guests were hiding in the air conditioned restaurant or tavern, leaving the 38 acres of lush tropical gardens almost entirely vacant. Images are presented in order of when they were taken to give you a true feel of the gardens.
A short clip of our cruise through Zion National Park; including our exit from the Mount Carmel Tunnel! The Tunnel is 1.1 miles long and the Jeep's Headlights went out right when we first entered! It was a little startling at first but ended up creating a cool lighting effect in the video.
S and I are completely comfortable on the road. We've been going on long road trips together since we started dating (six years ago last month!) and we've learned a thing or two about being at peace on the road. We know what snacks to pack, what shoes to pack, and how to keep a "go with the flow" attitude... for up to eight hours (Zion NP to LA)!
Personally I always need my Birksuns (easy on/off) and an oversized jacket. They're comfortable enough to fall asleep in and keep you warm during midnight voyages. I survived our Utah road trip in my new Revival Brand vintage "Hippie" jacket. Check out more of their revived vintage creations here and click "read more" to see more from our trucker stop shoot!
