Sunrises are one of my favorite experiences in life. They're magical, refreshing, and humbling all at once. Waking up for sunrise is something I do often while traveling, and something daily I do for work. These images were taken at my parents ranch last weekend, at sunrise, while I danced with my two pups. I encourage everyone to try and see more sunrises, because they truly are a wonderful thing.
Back to reality though..."Black Friday" has officially begun, and I know many of you will be waking up before sunrise to get your shop on. Trust me, I too was geared up and ready to go with my annual Black Friday online shopping guide... but then I started reading more and more about the water protectors peacefully fighting the Dakota Access pipeline. Protestors are loosing body parts from concussion grenades, being shot at with rubber bullets, and ironically attacked with water canons in an attempt to freeze them out. Reading all of this on Thanksgiving (aka national mourning day for many Native Americans) really got me down. I started to ask myself if I really needed another dress when someone just lost 80% of their arm and needs multiple surgeries to try and create a new one. The answer was a very quick and obvious NO. So this Black Friday I'm not posting a Black Friday guide. In fact I'm not participating at all this year. I deleted the online shopping carts I had ready to go and put the money I would have spent towards #nodapl donations.
