My recent trip to Costa Rica left me craving more: the warm salt-water, the unique mixture of wildlife, and the constant adventure. But the most intriguing aspect? The people.
From our attentive hotel staff who made a foreign country feel like home, to the neighborhood bar owner who helped gently remove a spiky shell from the bottom of my foot…the locals were more than just welcoming, making my trip a once in a lifetime experience. Their charismatic kindness was contagious, allowing me to bring a bit of Costa Rica back to the states.
Their compassion found it's way back into my home life in the form of Hey Girl Market. This new project aims to showcase talented Costa Rican artists, while simultaneously supporting fair trade practices and education for young girls.
Hey Girl Market founder, Andreina Cambronero, passionately seeks out talented Costa Rican artists who create 100% handmade goods. Additional products will be available to purchase, including modest purses and clutches that the local artisans spice up with their own unique designs. The result? One of a kind pieces that not only represent local artisan culture, but give back to the community through education and sustainable development.
The Hey Girl Market website goes live in April, meaning you'll be able to join in on the "Pura Vida” (Pure Life). Order exclusive handmade items directly from Costa Rica that you won't be able to find anywhere else. The best part is… your purchase will improve the welfare of young girls and promote inspirational Costa Rican artists long after you've received your "shipping confirmation" email. Hey Girl Market comes full circle with their promise to support locals by donating a portion of their profits towards the education of young women in Costa Rica.
“As a woman, I strongly believe in the power and the talent that our Costa Rican women have. I believe in women empowerment, in opportunities and in solidarity. I want to inspire, help and change my community through heygirlmarket and every item we are going to share with the world.”

In the following months, I’ll be sharing inside interviews with artisans joining the Hey Girl Market project, as well as photos and product reviews. Enjoy the images below from the first two Hey Girl Market photo shoots and get ready for an in depth look at one of the first artisans to join Hey Girl Market: Lolita Mia!
