To be completely honest, it's a bit difficult to write this post. It's even more difficult to try and encourage you to wear the coziest outfit trend of the season (Maxi dresses with jumpers!). I would much rather write about Australian Summer trends (as I sit here typing while wearing my Unif Hangover shorts and a Spell Bryon Bay brallette). It's in the low 90s but my apartment is currently in direct sunlight and has absolutely zero Air Conditioning.
Last week I was a bit more in the "October Mindset". Tucked up in the Hollywood Hills is my friends' spot: a 70's esque wooden home complete with a breathtaking backyard and two wolves. It was the ideal location for this "Halloween Witches" series. In the shade of both manicured and overgrown trees, the air felt cooler, your breath felt lighter, and the energy was crisp. My skin happily received a break from the humidity down by the Marina. It felt like fall.
For the second look of the witch series I took inspiration from both Wicked Lady from Sailor Moon and Sarah and Winifred Sanderson from Hocus Pocus. Wicked Lady wasn't really a witch, but she did have strong powers of evil... Also, how can you look at the new Wildfox "Cat and Moon" jumpers and NOT think of Sailor Moon? To take it to the dark side, I donned a "black moon" mark on my forehead and did my best to stay moody while surrounded by adorable animals and good friends.
The main inspiration for this story was from the Sanderson Sisters (2/3rds of them... sorry Mary, your child sniffing abilities didn't reach me). Sarah Sanderson inspired the brushed out blonde waves and the thick messy eyebrows. Winifred inspired the activity of the story: reading up on some witchcraft. In the film Hocus Pocus, Winifred Sanderson has a strange relationship with her book bound from hell. I didn't develop any separation anxiety when I separated from my book... but I did enjoy reading up on the history of Witches.
